RCRA Hazardous Waste Management Training
Details:
This training will focus on the wastes generated by SEHSA and the job functions of your members. Recent changes in the regulations and their impact on facilities will also be presented. The proposed program will meet the training requirements established in 40 CFR 265.16, and will include the following topics:
Overview of Hazardous Waste Regulations
•Federal and state laws and regulations that regulate hazardous waste
•What a “solid waste” is and why its definition is so important
•What a “hazardous waste” is and how to determine which of the wastes you generate are EPA or state regulated hazardous wastes
•Who is regulated by RCRA, how they are regulated, and how RCRA is enforced
•Penalties for non-compliance
Container Management
•Requirements for containers used to accumulate hazardous waste
•When you must comply with DOT container requirements and how to select containers that meet DOT standards
•How to determine if a container is in good condition as defined by EPA and DOT
Waste Management On-Site
•How to operate accumulation points and satellite accumulation points
•Requirements for the location, number, and operation of accumulation points and satellite accumulation points
•Waste containment, segregation, and compatibility
•Equipment required at every accumulation point
•How to label and when to date drums at accumulation points
•VOC air emission standards for hazardous waste generators
•Recordkeeping requirements: inspections, waste characterization, and
training
Pre-Transport Requirements
•How to prepare your waste for off-site transportation
•How to complete a hazardous waste manifest to satisfy EPA, state, and DOT requirements
•How to determine the proper shipping names for hazardous waste manifests
•How to determine which placards to offer the tr

DOT Hazardous Materials Training
Details:
DOT Hazardous Materials Training
Environmental Resource Center’s DOT Hazardous Materials Certification training program for SEHSA will cover the latest regulatory requirements under HM-181H, HM-200, HM-206, HM-215B, HM-215, HM-224, HM-218, HM-216, HM-222A, and HM-222B and will train your members how to handle hazardous materials in accordance with the DOT regulations applicable to their job functions.
The training will meet the training requirements established in 49 CFR 172.700–.704 and will include the following topics:
Introduction to the DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations
• What the DOT regulations cover
• How DOT regulations apply to materials handled by SEHSA members
• Other related laws and regulations applicable to handlers of hazardous materials
• Enforcement and penalties for non-compliance
What is a Hazardous Material?
• DOT hazard classes
• How to determine the degree of danger (Packing Groups I, II, and III)
• How to use the hazardous materials table and its appendices
• Hazardous materials handled by SEHSA members
Packaging Selection and Management
• How to select a package that meets DOT standards
• Performance-oriented packaging
• X, Y, and Z performance standards
• Requirements for container condition and reuse
• Package filling and closure per manufacturer’s instructions
• How to ship small quantities, limited quantities, consumer commodities, and samples
Marking and Labeling Requirements
• What must be marked on each package
• Special marks for hazardous substances, hazardous wastes, marine pollutants, consumer commodities, and limited quantities
• How to select and display the proper DOT labels
• When and how to use subsidiary labels
Shipping Papers
• How to complete shipping papers
• How to determine the proper shipping name

Course Materials
Each attendee of the course will receive the following materials:
1. Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Refresher Training Workbook, by Environmental Resource Center, contains guidance materials, step-by-step procedures, summaries, source material, and quizzes for each of the emergency response topics covered in class.
2. Certificate of course completion and wallet card for training documentation.
